.legal enters partnership with D-Seal
.legal is now an official partner of D-Seal – Denmark's certification scheme for IT security and responsible data use. The partnership means that organisations can work with D-Seal's criteria directly in the .legal platform and bring their entire compliance effort together in one place.
.legal, which develops and delivers GRC software for digital compliance, has entered into a formal reproduction agreement with D-Seal. The agreement grants .legal permission to incorporate and apply D-Seal's criteria within its compliance platform, enabling organisations to use .legal as their primary tool when working towards obtaining and maintaining the D-Seal certification.
D-seal is the world's first certification scheme to combine IT security and responsible data use in a single mark. The scheme was established by the Danish Industry Foundation in collaboration with the Confederation of Danish Enterprise, the Confederation of Danish Industry, SMVdanmark, and the Danish Consumer Council, and is supported by the Danish Business Authority. More than 130 organisations have been awarded D-Seal to date, with over 2,200 currently in the process.
With the Danish NIS2 Act, which entered into force on 1 July 2025, thousands of organisations now face stricter cybersecurity requirements. D-Seal and its NIS2 module can be used as a framework for working systematically with and documenting compliance with these requirements. The partnership with .legal now makes it possible to manage this work in a single platform alongside other compliance obligations such as GDPR, ISO 27001, and CIS18.
"More and more businesses are taking digital responsibility seriously, and working with it in a targeted and effective way requires the right tools. With .legal, businesses get a platform that provides oversight and supports the ongoing, practical work with the D-Seal's criteria, helping to strengthen IT security and responsible data use across the organisation."
– Mikael Jensen, Director, D-Seal
What does the partnership mean in practice?
Within the .legal platform, D-Seal's criteria have been incorporated with a 1:1 mapping to the D-Seal level 3 criteria. This ensures precise alignment between the platform's controls and D-Seal's level 3 criteria.
D-Seal's classification into company groups (I–IV), along with the specialist modules for "Privacy & Security by Design & Default", "Reliable Algorithms & AI", and NIS 2, are supported through .legal's implementation groups. The approach is cumulative, meaning controls from lower categories are automatically included at higher levels. This gives organisations a clear overview of which requirements apply to their particular size and complexity.
For each control, organisations can create tasks with associated descriptions, documentation, and status updates in .legal's task management module. Tasks can be linked to existing policies and procedures or created as standalone items. Documentation from tasks in .legal can be exported per task, making it straightforward to transfer documentation to the D-Seal's supervisory tool at audit.
Organisations choose for themselves whether to link D-Seal's criteria to existing annual compliance wheels in .legal or to create separate annual wheel tasks specifically for D-Seal. This flexibility means compliance can be integrated naturally into the organisation's existing processes.
"D-Seal fits naturally into the compliance landscape that many of our customers already work with. We see a growing need to bring IT security, data protection, and frameworks such as NIS2 and D-Seal together in one coherent tool. With this agreement, we can offer exactly that."
