.legal acquires the company behind GDPR.dk

Written by Johannes Eyolf Aagaard | 1 December, 2025

.legal supplements its compliance platform with one of Denmark's most visited websites for GDPR and data protection. With the acquisition, .legal can meet businesses at different stages of their compliance journey and create a community for knowledge sharing within digital compliance.

.legal, which develops and delivers compliance software, has today acquired the company behind GDPR.dk. The acquisition gives .legal access to an established knowledge centre with ten times as much organic traffic as .legal's current website and opens the opportunity to reach businesses at an earlier stage of their compliance journey.

GDPR.dk was founded in 2018, when the whole of Denmark needed to comply with the new GDPR rules. GDPR.dk has since focused on making complex legislation accessible to non-experts through easy-to-understand content and practical guides. Now .legal is taking over operations and plans to expand the platform to cover more areas within digital compliance, build a community and publish helpful articles that make complex requirements accessible to Danish businesses.

"We see GDPR.dk as a natural extension of our vision to make it easier to work with compliance requirements," says Brian Østberg, CEO at .legal.

"Not all businesses are ready to implement compliance software from day one. Many start by seeking knowledge and understanding what they need to comply with. With GDPR.dk, we can meet them where they are and follow them through the entire journey."

GDPR.dk will continue as an independent brand under .legal. For the first 12 months, .legal will focus on continuing to run the platform as the knowledge centre it is today, with minor adjustments. Going forward, the platform will also open up to external contributors from .legal's network of compliance experts, and .legal's webinars and other content will become available through GDPR.dk.

"This acquisition gives us some exciting opportunities we haven't had before," says Johannes Eyolf Aagaard, CPO at .legal.

"We're getting a place where we can create a community around digital compliance, share knowledge across our network and create value for both existing and future customers. GDPR.dk addresses an audience that's at a different stage to our software customers, so the synergies are clear."

Rasmus Clarck Sørensen, who founded GDPR.dk in 2018, is now leaving the company to focus on other projects. He looks forward to following GDPR.dk's continued development under .legal's leadership.

"GDPR.dk arose from a desire to help Danish businesses through the jungle of new rules," says Rasmus Clarck Sørensen.

"I'm proud of what we've built, and I have great confidence that .legal will take the platform forward in a way that creates value for everyone seeking knowledge about data protection and digital compliance. It feels right to hand it over to a team that has both the expertise and the vision to take it to the next level."
